Robin Frijns born in Maastricht 7th August 1991 is racing with a Dutch nationalilty. He has lived most of his life in Belgium but now went back to his place of birth.

Robin started his career on an indoor gokart in Belgium. Then it quickly went towards proper outdoor karting with the Belgium GKS Lemmens Power team from Genk. Along his period there Robin scored several podiums in the Belgian, French & European championships.

Single seaters

At the end of 2008 his last karting year, Robin was invited to participate in the BMW scholarschip trials in Valencia. Robin did well and was awarded a funded scholarschip to become a Formula BMW driver the year after with German team Josef Kaufmann Racing. Robin’s first year in single seaters went well. Scoring wins & podiums in his first year he ended as best rookie & 3rd overal.

The following year 2010 Robin proved his skills and clinched the overal championship with 6wins, 13podiums & 3 pole positions! Together with the Kaufmann team Robin made the switch to the Formula Renault 2.0 Eurocup championship. A risky but worthy move as Robin clinched the championship on his debut year. This win allowed him to receive fundung from Renault in order to graduate into the fast and high downforce World Series by Renault 3.5 category. With Fortec Motorsports Robin once again won the title in his first try. This were 3 European single seater titles in a row! This didnt go unnoticed and Frijns was hired by Sauber Formula 1 team to become their F1 test & reserve driver for 2013. That year Robin competed some events in GP2 winning a race in his only 2nd event! The last years of single seaters was 2014 being the F1 test & reserve driver for Caterham.

gt racing

After a difficult last year in sigle seaters with very little driving the switch to GT racing was made for the 2015 season. And once again this decision was rewarded with a title. The Blancpain GT series driver championship on his debut year. Robin contested the Blancpain Sprint & Endurance series with WRT Audi Customer racing. 2016 is ongoing and Robin competes in a dual program. He is now an official factory works driver for Audi Motorsport. Aswell Robin competed for Andretti Autosport in the famous Formula E category.

Frijns remains very ambitious for the future. “I want to exploit all my driver capapibilties to keep scoring wins & championships in all the categories I’m involved in. I feel good within the Audi Motorsport family and I’m convinced that I can achieve my long term goals with them. Also the trust the Andretti family have in me regarding their Formula E project feels fantastic.”
